A couple weeks ago I decided to have yet another go at making brownies. Not something widely considered to be difficult, but I've tried time and again and every time my brownies turn out like chocolate cake. Still good, yes, but when I want a brownie I want something rich, fudgey and chewy, not light and fluffy. I've tried so many different recipes and different techniques, but every time I get chocolate cake. Which is why I made making proper brownies a goal to cross off before the dreaded 30. Because really, who can't make brownies? Well, me apparently.
My mom and I both love food. Eating it, cooking it, looking at pictures of it, reading about it... you name it, we're there. A fact that my sister teases me about constantly. Have you heard of Food Porn Daily? A fantastic find of my mother's. "Click, drool, repeat" indeed. Anyway, my mom has been introducing me to some of her favorite food blogs, one of which is How Sweet It Is. While browsing through her posts I came across a recipe for Fudgey Brownie Cupcakes. I thought maybe I'd attempt these, because really, with "cupcake" in the name at least I'd have someone else to blame when they turned out to be chocolate cake yet again. You know what convinced me though? This line: "Do you know what these brownies don't lack? Sugar. Two whole cups of sugar that is. There is more sugar than flour in these brownies." Ya, that sounded like something I could handle. So I made them, and you know what? They were brownies! Real, actual brownies! Dense and fudgey and soooo good. The Mister liked them enough to ask me to make more so he could take some to work, where they apparently disappeared in 2 minutes flat. The Mister didn't even get one. I'll take it as a success then, even if they did get crowned "bruffins" since they get baked in a muffin pan.
